Ready, Set, Serve!

Thank you for taking the time to visit Ready El Paso.  We appreciate that you have taken the initiative to engage in a preparedness activity.  Whether it be creating a kit and disaster plan or actually training and serving as a volunteer in one of our many programs, Ready El Paso is here to help you in this endeavor.

We have five volunteer programs available through Citizen Corps.  They are:

  • Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)-class is free and provides citizens with 20 hours of classroom and hands-on training in fire suppression, medical and triage operations, basic firstaid, cribbing and other skills.
  • Fire Corps-  Handled by the City of El Paso and the Fire Department, this program allows participants to assist the department in areas such as logistics, administrative, grant writing and community education just to name a few.
  • Medical Reserve Corps-  A volunteer program geared toward healthcare professionals, the West Texas MRC  trains and develops the volunteer during non-emergency times and assists as healthcare volunteers during times of disaster.
  • Neighborhood Watch-  Handled by El Paso's Finest, the El Paso Police Department, these groups concentrate on crime prevention strategies for their neighborhoods.  They also engage in community crime awareness and education and work closely with their respective regional command stations.
  • Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS)-  Another program supporting the Police Department, these volunteers engage in direct activities helping the officers with everyday non-emergency duties.
